Should I Use Squarespace 7.1 Instead of 7.0?

I’ve worked with both Squarespace 7.0 and 7.1 templates for the past few years, and I would recommend using Squarespace 7.1 instead of Squarespace 7.0 if you are starting a new website. If you currently have a website hosted on Squarespace 7.0, it might be quite a bit of work to move all of your content to a 7.1 site depending on how large your site is, but Squarespace support does offer a helpful guide and video tutorial about how to make the switch as smooth as possible.

The reason I recommend Squarespace 7.1 instead of 7.0 is because it is much more flexible in terms of customization options. The main difference between the two platforms is that 7.0 has a number of different templates that have different customization options that can be limiting if you want to change the design later on, and all 7.1 templates use the same template version, meaning all templates have the same customization options and you can customize your template as much as you want without having to completely change templates. Squarespace 7.1 also allows you to add individual page sections and customize the background, width and height of each section instead of Squarespace 7.0’s more rigid page templates.

Squarespace will also no longer be adding new features to the 7.0 platform, so you’ll get access to a whole bunch of cool, helpful features if you use Squarespace 7.1.
